A stellar line-up brings us Mahler’s vast hymn to the natural world, one of music’s most immersive and enjoyable works.

One of the most magnificent, cinematic orchestral works ever composed, Mahler’s six-movement Symphony No 3, completed in 1896, is an epic journey through the natural world. Opening with a raw, elemental awakening, the music visits the flowers of the meadow, the animal kingdom, humanity itself and angelic realms, all culminating in a profound statement of divine love that unfolds over 25 minutes.

The forces involved are colossal: 17 woodwind instruments, a 16-strong brass section including eight horns, an array of percussion, boys’ and women’s choirs and an alto soloist – all coming together for the ultimate adventure in sound.

Sir Simon Rattle has conducted Mahler’s symphonies all through his stellar career, and together with the LSO and a superb team of choirs and soloists, will bring this moving work to kaleidoscopic life.
